The keys to patience are acceptance and faith. Accept things as they are, and look realistically at the world around you. Have faith in yourself and in the direction you have chosen.

1999- 2007: OCD: ADHD: Childhood Bipolar Disorder: The American Boy: Drugging of Minds, Behaviors and Spirit

Mother Goose
“What Are Little Boys Made Of?” is a popular nursery rhyme dating from the early nineteenth century:[Mother Goose].
What are little boys made of, made of?
What are little boys made of?
Snips and snails, and puppy-dogs’ tails,
That’s what little boys are made of.
What are little girls made of, made of?
What are little girls made of?
Sugar and spice, and everything nice,
That’s what little girls are made of.
~
"Had A.D.H.D finally been shown to be a rather trivial disorder, of a type with the waywardness of natural boyhood, better left untreated, best handled through maturation, unconditional love and chemical-free good living?"
-- Judith Warner.
~
Another version:
"What are little boys made of?
Hammers and nails, and puppy dog tails,
That's what little boys are made of.
What are little girls made of?
Sugar and spice, and everything nice,
That's what little girls are made of."
~
Though it appears, that the versions where ever you read them always leave the little girls full of sugar and spice and everything nice.
Little boys. Boys will be boys. What happened to that? the little girls grew up and became mothers that wanted sugar-coated worlds, to pursue career, make dinner and have a calm house in the last hour before homework was completed.
Perhaps her psychiatrist or psychologist, or the school teacher suggested to her that the boys were A.D.H.D., or as Judith Warner said,

Modern American Boys
"There’s a sense that greater powers, profit-driven and amoral, are pulling the strings in our children’s lives. There’s a sense that those who should best protect us — our government and our doctors — are so corrupted that they can no longer do the job." --Judith Warner.

"Thomas claims that a diagnosis of ADHD resulted from one-third of the office visits. Most striking is that as many as 26 percent of the office visits that led to a psych med being prescribed did not have an associated mental health diagnosis.
So these kids are getting prescribed all these drugs for what reasons? They are getting what results?"- Philip Dawdy.
Psychotropic Drug Prescriptions for Teens Up 250% in 7 year period.
"Psychotropic drug prescriptions for teenagers skyrocketed 250 percent between 1994 and 2001, rising particularly sharply after 1999, when the federal government allowed direct-to-consumer advertising and looser promotion of off-label use of prescription drugs, according to a new Brandeis University study in the journal Psychiatric Services."
"Nevertheless, the study noted that overall, pharmaceutical companies increased their spending on television advertising six fold, to $1.5 billion, between 1996 and 2000, with the trend accelerating after 1997, when the Food and Drug Administration Modernization Act was passed."

One Mother's Story.
"Soon after his diagnosis we were offered Ritalin for Luke - a controversial drug used to treat hyperactivity, which we refused until he was nine years old.
Then, at the peak of his hyperactivity, he impulsively ran across a road and came within an inch of being run over.
We decided, finally, that a drugged Luke was better than a dead Luke."

Influenced by Samples
"A Harvard-educated physician in a Manhattan practice confirms this point: “There’s no question,” she confides, “that having the samples right there in the cabinet influences which medication I’m going to give to a patient."

There is in every true woman's heart a spark of heavenly fire which lies dormant in the broad daylight of prosperity; but which kindles up, and beams and blazes in the dark hour of adversity.

Pfizer: Cerenia Side Effects: Something is up with that
My number one search and hit on my blog is for Cerenia. It's for dogs. It's being searched for long term use effects, etc. What's up with that? It's giving me cause for concern.
Pfizer's Cerenia for dog motion sickness.
I wonder if people are using it on dogs and seeing the side effects: muscle tremors, vomiting NOT associated with motion sickness, etc.
This drug is used for extreme nausea in dogs for cancer treatment, but has been added into the market for car sick dogs.
As with any new drug on the market, quite often nasty side effects show up and people don't equate it with the drug itself.
Dog is vomiting? increase the med....kinda like psychiatry.
Increase in symptoms? max out the dose.
Just thinking, and wondering what's up in the dog world with Cerenia, Pfizer?

evidence-based alternative therapy for bipolar & depression
i thought about how cold and awful and lonely it is inside psych wards. what if they offered patients massages? what if our insurance companies approved massage for depression or bipolar treatment as mandatory before approving medication? so i did a little google search and found evidence-based reasons for massage for all of us evidence-based abstract reading junkies.
Healing by Gentle Touch Ameliorates Stress and Other Symptoms in People Suffering with Mental Health Disorders or Psychological Stress.
"This open study provides strong circumstantial evidence that healing by gentle touch is safe and effective in improving psychological well-being in participants with self-reported psychological problems, and also that it safely complements standard medical treatment."
Evidence-based reason to ask the doctor to write an rx for massage therapy.
