Conflicts for FDA committee set to weigh risks of Seroquel
By Miriam Hill

Inquirer Staff Writer

AstraZeneca P.L.C. paid Florida child psychiatrist Jorge Armenteros to talk to other doctors about prescribing Seroquel, the company's powerful antipsychotic.

And until yesterday, Armenteros also was listed as the chair and a voting member of a Food and Drug Administration advisory committee with a lot of power over Seroquel, which generated $4.45 billion in sales last year for AstraZeneca, whose U.S. headquarters are in Wilmington.

On Wednesday, the advisory committee is expected to decide whether to expand dramatically the use of Seroquel XR, an extended-release version of the drug, which is used to treat depression and anxiety. But five members - including Armenteros, who did not return a call to his Coral Gables, Fla., office seeking comment - will not be voting.

"How can someone sit as chair of an FDA advisory committee crucial to AstraZeneca and Seroquel for five years even though he was an extensively trained speaker for AstraZeneca on Seroquel?" asked Pennock, a lawyer for the New York firm Weitz & Luxenberg."

"The industry is infected with greed," said Sheller, who runs the Philadelphia law firm that bears his name. "You can't trust the approvals, you can't trust the studies, and now you can't trust the FDA."

If the FDA committee approves the expansion, it would give AstraZeneca access to millions more patients because so many people suffer from depression and anxiety.

Currently, the FDA has approved Seroquel to treat schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, relatively rare diseases."-philly inquirer

This is absolutely outrageous beyond all fathoming!

Are you listening President Obama?

Who placed this insider on the committee in the first place?
WE WANT TO KNOW

Why has he remained on the committee and the FDA has blacked out his conflict of interest directly related to drugs he has promoted, approved through the FDA, and falsely pimped to the American Public?
WE WANT TO KNOW

Why is this insider still chairman of this committee?
WE WANT TO KNOW

Do AstraZeneca and the Pharmaceutical industry interest own the FDA?
WE WANT TO KNOW

This smells worse than the McCarthy era and the Which Hunts of the 50’s

At least then people knew they were being targeted and screwed over; and also there just happened to be communist spies in our country trying to steal important secrets as history has showed witness too.

This crime adds up to a trillion dollars a year scam that goes far beyond criminal and inhumane by even the loosest standards of professionalism or ethics!

This is an international company owning and directing OUR United States Government and the FDA (an agency that was put in place originally to protect citizens and consumers from this very type of greed mongering and influence peddling!)

At who’s expense? Each citizen of this once great land without any doubt!

I demand personally; as so should each of you out there in the blog world that these criminals not only be brought into the light of day; retribution be paid to their victims, but each are publicly ridiculed and sent to prison for as many years as possible.

The People are watching Mr. President, we are watching the United States Congress and Senate, and we are especially watching you over at the FDA.

Quote: "You can't trust the approvals, you can't trust the studies, and now you can't trust the FDA."

May I add, you cannot trust the medical profession or our government to do their job with ethics or responcibility anymore.
