Dr. Geller is a Professor of Psychiatry at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis where she is principal investigator on NIMH funded grants to study the diagnosis, longitudinal course, psychosocial functioning and family psychopathology of prepubertal children and early adolescents who have bipolar disorders. She has published over 95 articles on childhood mania and on the psychopharmacology and longitudinal course of prepubertal major depressive disorders. Dr. Geller has served on and chaired numerous federal advisory committees at the NIMH, NIDA and FDA and is on multiple editorial boards. Dr. Geller is the recipient of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Nathan Cummings Special Research Award, the NAMI Exemplary Scientist Award and the St. Louis AMI Outstanding Scientist Award. She has served on the Board of Directors of the St. Louis DMDA and is currently on the Board of Directors of the Child and Adolescent Bipolar Foundation.

Barbara Geller, MD, is Professor of Psychiatry at Washington University, St. Louis. She has been recognized internationally for her research into pediatric bipolar disorders and is principal investigator on multiple NIMH-funded grants. Among her awards are the Cummings Special Research Award from the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and the Exemplary Psychiatrist Award from the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill. Dr. Geller has served on numerous federal advisory committees and has published more than 125 articles on childhood manic-depressive disorders. She conducts a second-opinion teaching clinic for children with bipolar or other serious psychiatric disorders. She has been writing for Journal Watch Psychiatry since 1997, specializing in articles on genetics and child psychiatry.

I have a difficult time trusting anyone on a drug approval committee who has vested interest in promoting psychiatric medications in children for pediatric bipolar disorder that is a questionable disorder in the first place.
