it's been fun walking in the spring with everything starting to bloom in the woods, and we came across this flower a week or so ago, and we've seen 4 total. they're large, and the stem comes up in the wooded area like a fern does. it's gorgeous and doing a google search, i found out it is a western trillium,LILIACEAE (Lily family). the first time we saw this flower, i was having a (typical lately)hard time with my knees and leg pain and was in (most likely teary eyed)a whine-mode and the flower was a great distraction. my legs and knees didn't hurt today, what a relief. the dog got to visit with a few dog buddies and the weather has been pleasant too. we'll watch the flower go through the stages from white petals, that change to pink, and then to purple and hopefully take more photos. (the photos here are from our walk, click on the photo to enlarge)
from the link:
The changing colour of similar flowers has inspired poetry, as in the following exerpt from Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream: (Act 2: Oberon):
Yet mark'd I where the bolt of Cupid fell:
It fell upon a little western flower,
Before milk-white, now purple with love's wound.

Stephany,
The flower is so beautiful, as are the words you right. I love being at your blog, it feels safe.
I hope your knee continues to heal. Take care and have a wonderful weekend.
Thank you again, for sharing and caring. You have no idea, how much I hold on to your words. As I'm sure you know, I may seem open in my blog, but there is so much more I don't say.
