Abilify spokesperson Andy Behrman speaks out against the drug

Abilify spokesperson Andy Behrman speaks out against the drug

Andy Behrman, author of the book based on his life, "electroboy" was a spokesperson for the antipsychotic Abilify. While on the drug and being a paid to speak about it, he suffered side effects and now has gone up against Bristol-Myers Squibb by speaking candidly about Abilify.

The one minute long video is worth watching, and can be found on the mental health news site Furious Seasons HERE.

From Furious Seasons:

"Andy Behrman, author of "Electroboy," was a spokespatient for Bristol-Myers Squibb's Abilify for a time and, according to yesterday's Wall Street Journal piece on him and his broken relationship with BMS, he made upwards of $400,000 speaking on behalf of the drug. Ironically, Behrman was suffering severe side effects from the drug during much of that period."-Philip Dawdy

The video can also be viewed here at Susan's blog, and at Ana's blog.

I've said it before and I shall say it again--take some time to consider what this drug can do to your body, and remember this is an antipsychotic being re-marketed as an add-on for use for depression treatment. Abilify is yet another drug the doctors trialed on my daughter while she was in psych wards. One doctor even had her on Abilify and Clozaril at the same time, as a matter of fact that's what she was on when I got her out of that hospital. The doctor who cares for her now removed Abilify immediately, saying 2 antipsychotics were dangerous used in tandem, and Abilify actually is charted in her chart over the last 3 years as increasing agitation, and severe insomnia.

I've seen it at FS.
It's good he did it. I remember seeing one ad similar to this one at your blog.
Or it was this one.
I guess I'm going to publish this post at my blog.
I never been on Abilify and Clorazil (it's a miracle that I've never been on this. I don't see too many people on Abilify here. Clorazil must have another brand name because I never heard of it)
This is a great post. That's what must be done to raise awareness: the more posts about these drugs the better.
It's funny because we are strong not because we are united but because each blogger says the same.
Love,
Ana

My daughter was on Abilify briefly during her first hospitalization. She was only on it a day or so because it caused a dangerous drop in blood pressure.

Right now she is on 1000mg a day of Depakote and 3mg a day or Risperdal. That is down from being on 5mg or Risperdal. She is 16. During her 5th out of 6th hospitalizations the psychiatrist told us that 5mg Risperdal was way too much for a teen (she had been on that dose over a year). He eventually tapered her down to 1, which caused problems and necessitated hospitalization #6.

My daughter was on 1500mg (3 x's a day 500mg pills) of Depakote from age 11 through age 17 years old,and specialists have verified lack of menses is due to Polycystic Ovary Syndrome, a black box warning that is now in place for Depakote for use in women 20 yrs old and younger. It now has given her an increase in cancer risk (cervical cancer) and to lessen the risk, she has to have hormone therapy to induce a period.(and she's only 21)

She was on risperdal first. At age 11 in 1999 it nearly killed her. I thought she was dying in the psych ward, and they removed it and put her on Zyprexa. She gained over 100 lbs and was called the "beast" by boys in junior high as a result.

PS it was the psych inpatient doctors that put her on the most meds
