magnificent day

watercolor painting by my daughter about 5 years ago

a country drive, lunch and a visit to a horse stable. the woman there has allowed my daughter to come visit anytime she wants to, to pet a horse. my daughter has always had an affinity with horses and during some very horrible days would be calm while riding one, and she always called herself a free spirit. she loved to ride a horse along a beach a few hours away where the sea air and the ride along the shore always gave her a freedom from her mind.

yesterday was a warm and perfect day here. we took her out to lunch and ate ice cream, and we all pet the horses. it was truly a good day and when i said goodbye to my daughter, it was for the first time in about 2 years that i placed my arm around her shoulder to give her a hug and she leaned in close, as to place her head on my shoulder. she has been through much and hugging people has been slow to come back. i felt she was completely back yesterday, for one shining moment. it was a golden moment. the kind that will stand out if things get difficult.

Wow, this is inspiring. My son (7) was put on Respiridol after a brief psychiatric hospitalization for aggressive behaviors that were getting worse and worse at school and home but the worst behavior came when a psychiatrist tried Ritalin to which he had an incredibly unpleasant reaction to. It set him off completely. If it were not for that, he probably would not have needed to be hospitalized.

But now we are weaning him from the drug and so far so good, I hope we can keep him off it for good.

Thanks for your inspiring blog.

It can be lonely dealing with stuff like this.
