The pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca said Thursday (29/Oct/09) that it had reached a $520 million agreement to settle two federal investigations and two whistle-blower lawsuits over the sale and marketing of its blockbuster psychiatric drug Seroquel.One of the investigations related to “selected physicians who participated in clinical trials involving Seroquel,” AstraZeneca disclosed in a government filing. To be honest with you, I worry about the Pharmaceutical companies, because they are all about money. They claim all medications are tested, before they are put on the market. But I often feel that we are the guinea pigs?
You've got that right, Barb, writing these last several years, the truth that came out about pharma companies has been ridiculously full of lack of ethics, and withheld info.
The makers of Seroquel and Zyprexa (anti psychotics)are 2 examples of both companies KNOWING serious life threatening side effects and MARKETING the drug anyway.
the FDA is accountable to us for that, and they are the entity that needs scrutinization, because they could stop these things from happening---IF though studies like the seroquel study 15 and the paxil one were truthful---but the companies lied to EVERYONE.
Keller and Brennan need to be in prison, is my opinion, so does Dr Michael Reinstein.
It goes into heart medicine, womens prempro, it's in EVERY section of pharmaceuticals, the corruption and marketing of these drugs IS at the expense of our health and we and our children are definitely the guinea pigs for long term use of most of these drugs.
Oh yes, I must add Charles Nemeroff and Biederman to the prison list too.
Accoutability with these people so far has meant nothing. Senator Grassley got the ball rolling and needs to push jail time on them next.
Seroquel is the bane of my existence. I am tapering off and when I am done things are going to get hectic between my doctor and I.
I love these sorts of blogs and though I have the seroquel groggies right now,think they should be a controlled substance, and that someone at a laboratory needs to release documentation saying it is HIGHLY addictive.
I also right now am sick of reading news about the drug. I just wish there was a blog saying about what can be DONE to pull/limit/properly label this drug.
But again I have the seroquel groggies. Slapping a huge fine on them (AZ)is great but it won't stop addicts from saying they need it. Or getting it any way they can. Even erowid has a page on seroquel and seroquel abuse.
