Via Furious Seasons mental health news blog:
Somehow, this just seems like an out of body experience writing about how the FDA approved the use of the antipsychotic Seroquel and Zyprexa for use in 10 year olds and teens, while calling for a review for metabolic issues possibly caused by those drugs.
I'll just copy and paste my comment I left over at Furious Seasons and leave the rest for everyone to consider themselves. The "5 at 5" slogan the marketing team at Lilly produced for the pharma-reps did the trick in 1999 for my daughter's doctor. She took that "5 o'clock" pill for 6 years. She lost the 100+ pounds she gained while taking the drug as soon as the drug was removed. She suffers from what I believe is permanent withdrawal psychosis, damage to her brain, as a result of using that drug.

"How can this possibly make any sense at all? to review the safety of these drugs AFTER they approve them for official use? (as opposed to how they (Zyprexa and Seroquel)are already showing damage done to children in off-label use, holy Mother of God, it has finally happened hasn't it?
The stuff we have written about for the last several years, that the anti psychotics will be re-marketed as anti depressants and broad base use will be approved, and the worst part is, these companies are in million/billion dollar lawsuits, and the drugs are being approved by the FDA for use in kids.
I mean, what in the hell is going on here? Our country has lost its moral compass, I am sorry to say how disgusted I am with the government allowing this safety issue to go by the way side while corporations stock rises as a result of approving these drugs for use in kids, we have lost our way.
It can never go back now. The companies have won the battle, and the ever-increasing diagnosing and medicating of children and teens will explode even more, until we have drugged the child's spirits away, so that there no longer is a baseline for childhood, no longer an example of a gleeful, witty, happy child, now it's muddled, it's ruined.
If I can say one word of warning to any parents of children under age 17, is to guard your child from the use of these drugs, they are not safe and the FDA has placed your child in jeopardy, in grave danger of loss of life, permanent body damage and a possible loss of ability to think, and speak.
This is a health care crisis, and no one seems to notice."
