concrete and stones

the patient built stone wall that has lined the road since the early 1900's.

depicted in a painting of mine i did in 2008.

today, there weren't many words spoken as i sat with her while she ate her lunch. her face did light up when she looked over her shoulder, and saw me waving at her while walking toward the visiting room where she was about to eat.
--
lined up along the table were monopoly game pieces. she loved to play that game and over the last few years she has not been able to complete a sentence or a game, and that has shifted recently.
--
WHEN she re-entered high school at age 19 in a special program for young adults who have been in psych hospitals, her teacher remarked: "she's like a stroke victim!".
--
She was a junior in high school, an honor society student, who, for credit was given part of the day working in a special education classroom of middle school aged teens.she loved doing that, and often read out loud and helped them with math.

--
the plan per meetings, and IEP plans in school was for her to continue to receive her education in an out of box formula, fitting precisely: her individual needs to gain that successful outcome. she received high school credits for her volunteer work at the Humane Society, and the local Food bank. she was in charge of 2 senior citizen centers that receive dog and cat food for high need client pets. she spent hundreds of hours as a volunteer for others, she was a beacon in the oasis of darkness and lack of hope in society.

--
she was and still is, a shining light for others to follow.

--
THE recipient of Unsung Hero awards, art awards and a volunteer, the one thing she was most proud of was her high school IEP detailing her as having "a heart of gold".

---

Though, there were no words from her today, as i was leaving she shuffled through a stack of Monopoly game cards and handed me one.

It said, " get out of jail free".

Glad to see she still has a sense of humor and still finds a way to communicate that.

Lindsay went through a process of doing some wonderful productive deeds. And from what I have heard, schizophrenia can dwindle with age. One day she could bounce right back there, where she left off.
