After a decade of researching the after-effects of my daughter being placed on an anti depressant for bed wetting at age 11, I thought I'd put a link up to an article I've had saved for years.
In 2006, a well-known (peer reviewed and published! ooooh) thought leader psychiatrist, gave her this dx, along with the Depakote side effect of Polycystic Ovary Syndrome directly caused by Depakote use for 6 years. (permanent body damage). The doctor placed Zyprexa as the culprit for the metabolic syndrome cause.
At the cost of $250,000 paid by uncompensated care funds, maybe this thought should carry on, though that doctor did give up on my daughter after 800mg of Seroquel didn't do what he wanted. (cure or excuse?) (antipychotics are theme here)

Educate yourself
Metabolic Syndrome Cause article:
"Many patients say that once they gained that weight, they couldn't lose it despite using diets that had worked for them before, as though they were somehow metabolically different after this medication-induced weight gain. Their bodies act as though there was some sort of metabolic shift induced by the medications that then has become self-sustaining. Take the following link if you'd like more information on that metabolic shift and how it seems to affect women more than men. "

There are no absolutes in medicine. In fact, many people and professionals cling to the "art and science" of the discussion, as a reason to say they "have no idea what the hell happened".

Steph-it's ok if you dont publish this...but why would anyone put a child on anything for bed wetting? All kids are different. All people are different. Good grief. If you piss the bed oh well...change the sheets. Change your life style. They make everything for bedwetting now. And drugs is not the answer. bastards!

she was going to summer camp for the 5th grade class summer of 1999, and she was worried she would wet her bed at camp. i took her to the pcp, and make the biggest mistake of my life. (it was imipramine, i had no idea what it was, and she became out of the blue psychotic 6 weeks later, thus the beginning of hell, and my reason for warning parents, because i was surely stupid, learning along the way, found out fast that doctors dont like to be questioned). then she of course heard everything they said and at times challenged me for questioning it all, then by age 17 she fired her psych after researching herself, long road the last decade. now she has been "static" for pretty much 4 solid years. memories recalled are rote in appearance.
There is something that can be done about metabolic syndrome weight gain, as I found out after gaining 13 pounds from Paxil and not being able to take it off. Google Dr. A.T.W. Simeon and his book "Pounds and Inches". This guy is the only person who knows what he's talking about. The diet involves HCG (hormone found in pregnant women) and 500 calories a day. I took off the weight in three weeks and kept it off. Nothing else I tried had worked, despite the fact that I went back to my careful eating habits. I figured I was doomed to having the extra weight for the rest of my life. The diet is perfectly safe and you don't feel hungry despite the fact you are surviving on 500 calories per day. I even went skiing when I was on the diet. The book can be downloaded and is really entertaining to read.
I think they should be very careful what they prescribe for a child. Considering they are not fully developed and in the stages of growing, their bodies are not the same as adults.
They changed my son's medication to Zyprexa, and I don't think he is doing very well on it.
