Seroquel, PTSD and veterans: survive war, die by antipsychotic off-label use

Seroquel prescribed for insomnia and PTSD to veterans: a killer of a drug

VIA NYDaily News:

Andrew White's death was a preventable tragedy, Seroquel, an antipsychotic is a lethal drug being marketed and trialed for use in children, for blushing, for public speaking phobia, for menopausal depression, for anorexia and more.

"
Several soldiers and veterans have died while taking the pills, raising concerns among some military families that the government is not being up front about the drug's risks. They want Congress to investigate.

In White's case, the nightmares persisted. So doctors recommended progressively larger doses of Seroquel. At one point, the 23-year-old Marine corporal was prescribed more than 1,600 milligrams per day — more than double the maximum dose recommended for schizophrenia patients.

A short time later, White died in his sleep."

Dear AstraZeneca,

AstraZeneca googled ' Dr. Henry Nasrallah Seroquel'. That's good. AstraZeneca, because Americans want justice, and accountability for the corporate crimes you've committed. The $520 million dollar fine (and Corporate Integrity Agreement) from the DOJ for illegal marketing of Seroquel in April 2010 was not enough. Thanks James Wetta.

The death of Dan Markingson in the CAFE trial and Andrew White's death were preventable tragedies. The 26,000 people suing AstraZeneca for becoming diabetic after taking Seroquel want answers and accountability.

AstraZeneca is trialing Seroquel XR right now at the University of Minnesota, the principal investigator is the same one in charge of the CAFE trial in 2003, and the study is funded by AstraZeneca. Trial of Seroquel XR vs. placebo.

The drug is being used off-label for use in children, and adults. This drug is NOT an antidepressant it is a non-efficacious antipsychotic re-marketed and being promoted for use as far as the patent will take this drug.

BY the time Seroquel goes generic, the damage will have been done, the company moves on. It is already killing innocent people. The drug is being abused as a street drug in prisons. Rebecca Riley was 4 years old when she died and Seroquel had been given to her.

These people are victims of corporate crime and greed. Remember Wayne MacFadden trading sex for BMS information?

Maybe the US government should investigate itself and ask why this trial was sponsored by the Department of Veteran Affairs. Or, why they allow AstraZeneca to collaborate in a drug trial promoting the sale of their drug.

The more I read about Seroquel the more I realize how scary it really was...the fact I couldn't be awaken. YIKES. And I personally made the decision to take myself off, no one else did. Double yikes!

I wonder if they are desperate, overworked and looking for something that will just make it go away? A couple of friends work for the VA, psychologists, not prescribers. They're swamped. Besides PTSD, there is a whole world of problems only just beginning because of TBIs and concussions.

Are desperate, overworked V.A staff looking for something that will just make it go away? A couple of friends work for the VA, psychologists, not prescribers. They're swamped. Besides PTSD, there is a whole world of problems getting bigger because of TBIs and concussions. I don't how they're deciding who will receive these medications, but it's worrying because we're talking about many people who will be dealing with chronic and, in some cases, progressive problems. There is so much guessing/experimentation with these medications.

Jeremiah Workman (Marine, awarded the Navy Cross in Fallujah) wrote a hari raising book about his battle with PTSD, and the drugs that were pushed on him.

"The Shadow of the Sword". Highly recommended.

AstraZeneca should be banned from all government business with what the DOJ and our government already knows about their illegal and criminal practices; yet our government will use brave and honorable citizens that have risked their lives for this country as sacrificial offerings to pharmaceutical corporate interest purely out of a never ending lust for power and the money bounty these corporations place into their self serving coffers.

This is a national shame and disgrace of the highest order, and these criminals should be brought to justice with swift and harsh retribution for their hideous actions.

It's horrible when people die or are otherwise maimed by these drugs. However, I think the members of the armed forces are the last people shrinks and the drug companies should be screwing over. I don't think Marines aren't going to sit there and compliantly put up with whatever horsesh*t the shrink feels like spewing, no matter what the good doctor's rank.

As more "normals" discover what a scam psychiatry and its drugs are maybe the "mentally ill" will actually get some respect. People will realize what the "crazies" have been saying all along is the actual truth and there will be some change for the better.

I have been on Seroquel for more than two years (as has a friend of mine) and it has really assisted me in turning my life around. Aside from drowsiness in the morning, I haven't had any side effects. Off-label use of extremely serious psychiatric drugs needs to be very carefully assessed and monitored. This said, sodium valproate, which was a drug initially used for epilepsy, is an extremely effective off label mood stabilier. But I would strongly query why ANYONE was ever prescribed 1600milligrams of seroquel(my maximum dose has been 600). Seroquel is, after all, a heavy sedative first and foremost, before ever taking into account its anti-psychotic properties.
