Psych Out 2011:
In remembrance of Esmin Green Candle Light Vigil June 19, Conference June 20-21.
Esmin Green Died in 2008
On the hospital floor after being ignored by health care professionals at Kings County Hospital in Brooklyn, NY. She was involuntarily to the hospital for agitation and psychosis, and was ignored, left to die alone on the floor.
It is time for a revolution, it is time for dignity restoration, for advocates to be assigned from outside agencies, time for choices in treatment other than medication, time for inpatients to be given choices for care other than mandatory medication compliance upon discharge.
It is time for people like my daughter to have a voice in this world. It is time for people like my daughter to stop being transported by gurney 5 point restraints.
It is time for people like my daughter to stop being left alone in ERs until family arrives. It is time for ERs to stop having police with guns (armed police) guard locked ER side rooms when people like my daughter are there for evals.
It is time for people like my daughter to have dignity and for my daughter, a place in this world that is no longer held in discriminatory minds---the photo is of a gurney that transported her to mental health court a few years ago.
The most vulnerable citizens in their time of need are often treated like second class citizens.
