Click directly on the title of this post to read 1 Boring Old Man blog authored by a retired psychiatrist, who is writing a knock-out series on bipolar kids, and the history of the diagnosis.
Dr. Joseph Biederman, who was just this last week sanctioned by Harvard/Mass General along with Spencer and Wilens, for breaking conflict of interest policy at the medical school for receiving $1 million a piece from pharmaceutical companies and failing to disclose the pocketed money.
It was Senator Charles Grassley that opened an investigation and the result 3 years later is Mass Gen slapping the wrists of the $3 million dollar psychiatrist/researcher/KOL's with sanctions that some might consider less than adequate.
I personally would like to see a monetary fine to the tune of a million each and that money donated to breaking ground at an alternative living residence for people with mental health labels, a Soteria House, where clients can choose not to be medicated or use minimum medications. The positive side to it is they choose their treatment, there is no coercion, or court-ordered mandatory medicating done.
I implore you to read the series at the Boring Old Man blog, it's detailed with articles, facts, data, internal documents, emails and letters....
bipolar kids: biedermania and super angry/grouchy/cranky irritability
That one, in his series brought tears to my eyes. You can see my comment there.
Thank you, Doctor!
